Are you looking for a unique Darjeeling accommodation opportunity amidst the rolling green tea farms at the foot of the Himalayas? Mineral Springs Community Homestays is a small farming village offering unique opportunities for a Darjeeling homestay during your India holiday.
Mineral Springs is located about 18 kilometers from Darjeeling. The community was once a unified tea estate during British rule. It has since been transformed into a collective of small farms, 450 members strong. The farmers’ decision to practice certified organic Darjeeling tea farming and to diversify their crops through the additions of oranges, ginger, cardamom and other fruits has resulted in a sustainable alternative to the region’s majority of coroporate tea farms.
Choose from three peaceful and relaxing farmstays in the Mineral Springs Community Homestay program:
- Jangbeer Daju Homestay, with its incredible views of the valley;
- Jojo's Homestay, with its opportunities to learn more about traditional local crops;
- Zimba’s Homestay, owned by a farmer who is locally renowned for his handmade Darjeeling teas.
The homestays offer simple, comfortable and adequate rooms and warm hospitality. They are all managed by Tathagata Journeys, ensuring that a high standard of cleanliness and comfort is met. In fact, some of the owners have in turn become mentors to other community members interested in starting their own Darjeeling home stays. Each owner is deeply dedicated to his organic farm practice and is eager to share his trade with visitors.
